A Syrian man was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for his role in a migrant riot at the Röszke border crossing station last autumn. In its primary ruling passed on Wednesday, the Szeged court said that the man was guilty of terrorist activities involving illegal border crossing as well as coercion and violence, committed as a participant in the riot.

Last night around 10:30 there was an explosion in front of an empty storefront at 2-4 Teréz körút. Two policemen, a man and a woman, both in their twenties, were seriously injured. According to early reports, the explosion took place inside the store, but eventually it was ascertained that the detonation of the anti-personnel nail bomb occurred outside. Hundreds of nails have been found nearby.

Hungary agrees with Austria’s position that hotspots for handling arriving migrants must be set up outside the European Union’s borders, the prime minister’s security advisor said. György Bakondi told public news channel M1 that the hotspots should screen the migrants and only allow people to approach the border who have passed security controls and of whom their identity is certain.
