The motion was submitted by two deputy mayors who are also MPs, of whom Gábor Bagdy abstained from voting while István György voted against his own proposal. It was soundly rejected by 305 votes to 14.

"Budapest should tighten its belt if it is to bail out the public transport company BKV, Fifth District mayor Antal Rogán said in a statement issued on Thursday. Rogán, a Fidesz MP, said Budapest did not provide one forint of operational support to the transport company in 2010 and 2011, while the government gave it over Ft 140 billion in subsidies.

"The Central Investigative Prosecutors Office on Wednesday filed charges against Socialist former deputy mayor Miklos Hagyo and 14 associates, alleging misuse of funds at Budapest public transport company BKV. The indictment states that Hagyo founded and ran a criminal organisation involving top and medium-level BKV executives which cost the BKV Ft 1.5 billion from January 2007 to August 2008.
