Kaláka Festival: 'Cultural Jewel of Eger', 26 - 29 June
Eger will host the 45th Kaláka Festival between June 26-29 this year, the artistic director of the program announced at the event's press conference.

Érsekkert will be the main venue for the traditional parade, which showcases the colorful palette of the folk genre.

However, the festival-opening poetry concert will still be hosted by the Gárdonyi Géza Theater on the evening of June 26. The performance titled Kortársak, which evokes the friendship between Lőrinc Szabó and Mihály Babits, will feature Mistrál alongside the host ensemble, he added.

The next day, a photo exhibition of Máté Török's works will open at an external location, at the Lyceum of the University of Eger, followed by a musical city walk, he announced.

Among the accompanying programs, the organisers highlighted the free performance entitled Mountain Speech on Saturday afternoon in the Reformed Church, which will feature the Gryllus brothers and writer Zoltán Sumonyi.

During the annual festival a wide variety of folk groups and performers will entertain audiences in Érsekkert once again.

In addition to Kaláka, the Makám and Cimbaliband, the Vujicsics Ensemble, Márta Sebestyén and Judit Andrejszki, and the Csík Ensemble will perform, among others.

Organisers emphasised that they will pay special attention to children, with kids concerts, interactive programs, craft workshops, storytelling performances, and playhouses for them on Saturday and Sunday mornings in the Children's Festival block specifically designed for them.

László Gulyás, the city's deputy mayor responsible for cultural affairs, called the festival a cultural jewel of Eger, which the city supports with 1.5 million forints.
