Freedom House (FH) has ranked Hungary as a “free” democracy in its 2016 global report released on Wednesday. The human rights watchdog called populists and autocrats “the dual threat” to global democracy. The report for last year evaluated the state of freedom in 195 countries and 14 territories.

Budapest’s mayor, István Tarlós, has failed to discuss proposals concerning renovating the third metro line or handling the capital’s current smog problem, a Socialist representative said. Wage increases will help strengthen the middle class and Hungary’s economy as a whole in the long term, state secretary Csaba Dömötör said. The economy has been on a path of growth for several years and projections show that the growth rate could reach 4% taking into account European Union tenders, he told public news channel M1.
