It has been exactly 130 years since the Budapest Opera opened its gates on 27 September, 1884. The Hungarian State Opera commemorates the anniversary of the opening with crowds in period costumes, an extraordinary gala concert, the premier of a film, and the publication of a historical book.

From September 25 – October 3, 2014, the EYEFUL Festival is back for the third time, sponsored jointly by the Embassy of Switzerland, the Austrian Cultural Forum, and the Goethe Institute. The Bridging Europe arts festival will focus on German culture during its four-day programme starting on Sept. 10 this year. The festival organised for the second time by the Palace of Arts and the Budapest Festival Orchestra seeks to find connections between Hungarian culture and the cultures of other countries through music. Judgment in Hungary, a documentary about the trial of the serial murderers of Roma in Hungary from 2008-09, has received two awards at the Sarajevo film festival, writes vs.hu. Besides the award granted by the festival’s jury (chaired this year by the retired Hungarian director Béla Tarr) the film also received the Human Rights Award.

The shooting of a high-budget international film about Hungary’s legendary race horse Kincsem is expected to start in late October, the producer said. Gábor Losonczi told a press conference that the film entitled The Invincible would be co-produced by Hungary, Britain, Russia, Germany, the US and Austria.
