The first BIDF will show 32 features and 9 short documentaries between September 25 and 28. The films presented personally by their creators will compete in four special categories. A selection of the best Hungarian documentaries of the past 25 years will also be shown.

They are bringing to Budapest’s Művész Cinema the best of new films from German-speaking lands, including a number of prizewinners.

The Bridging Europe arts festival will focus on German culture during its four-day programme starting on Sept. 10 this year. The festival organised for the second time by the Palace of Arts and the Budapest Festival Orchestra seeks to find connections between Hungarian culture and the cultures of other countries through music. This year’s Jewish Summer Festival held until Sept. 7 features music, literature, theatre, film and fine art, with a focus on the 70th anniversary of the Holocaust. Some 30 productions with more than 500 contributors at more than ten venues are featured in the week-long festival. In addition to Budapest, events are held in Gyöngyös, Pécs and Veszprém.

Judgment in Hungary, a documentary about the trial of the serial murderers of Roma in Hungary from 2008-09, has received two awards at the Sarajevo film festival, writes vs.hu. Besides the award granted by the festival’s jury (chaired this year by the retired Hungarian director Béla Tarr) the film also received the Human Rights Award.
