Pelikan Blue: Hungarian Film Wins Grand Prize at International Animation Festival
Pelikan Blue, a Hungarian animated feature-length documentary, won the grand prize at this year’s Animix international animation and comics festival.

Directed by László Csáki, Pelikan Blue uses humour and nostalgia to tell the story of three friends in early 1990s Hungary who use indigo paper to forge international train tickets.

Pelikan Blue won the grand prize in the festival’s feature film category, the National Film Institute (NFI) said in a statement.

The judges praised the feature for being “a bold film unlike any other that dares to focus on a seemingly insignificant story”, pointing out its elements of “subversive anarchism” and the human desire for freedom.

The Animix festival has been organised since 2000 and draws around 20,000 visitors each year.
