A man fired a gas alarm pistol at a BKV ticket inspector in Budapest on Sunday afternoon, police announced. The 23-year-old inspector suffered light injuries. The 52-year-old culprit was detained on the spot.

While assembling nine bands, Samhainfest brought together fans from all over Hungary, but the neighboring countries, too. The festival also meant one of the biggest gatherings of Hungarian folk metal bands, since more than half of them don't usually reside in Budapest.

The Central Prosecutors Office is investigating what may be one of the biggest series of abuses committed by Hungarian police, based on reports filed by the National Police, Népszabadság reports. The suspicion is that a group of senior officers regularly offered Budapest Police services for cash – for instance securing dangerous or oversize shipments – without issuing invoices.
96 Hungarian Policemen Fired For 2006 Abuses

A total of 96 policemen have been sacked for their conduct in autumn 2006, according to a summary provided to the cabinet by Interior Minister Sándor Pintér. Ten uniformed policemen convicted by a court will shortly be removed from the force. The state has paid Ft 270.5 million in compensation to 149 victims for police brutality committed in the autumn of 2006.
