Hungary is ready to hold coordination talks with Brussels in the next two months over the 12 billion euro project to upgrade the Paks nuclear power plant but will take the issue to court if necessary, the government office chief said in connection with the European Commission’s decision to launch an infringement procedure over related public procurement rules.

A Budapest court sentenced former Socialist Defence Minister Ferenc Juhász and his state secretary László Fapál to suspended prison terms for misappropriation of funds. The Budapest Capital Regional Court sentenced the former minister to a suspended prison term of two years for misappropriation of funds in allocating and selling a ministryowned apartment to Fapál in 2005- 2006.

The Robert Burns International Foundation is well underway with preparations for the 19th Budapest Burns Supper to be held at the Corinthia Hotel on 23 January 2016.The event in January 2015 was a sell-out with all of the tables being reserved by Christmas, and early interest suggests the RBIF can expect no less in January 2016.

Jobbik To File Complaint Over Hungarian Border Fence Costs

Materials and equipment used in the recent construction of the border fence between Hungary and Serbia were purchased at 5-8 times the market price, the radical nationalist Jobbik party said. Deputy leader István Apáti said that the government had provided “confusing” answers to relevant questions and added that his party would file a criminal complaint under suspicion of abuse of public funds.
