The cabinet proposes outlawing the operation of slot machines, Prime Minister’s Office leader János Lázár announced after an unscheduled cabinet meeting was held at 8 a.m. Monday morning. The cabinet submitted a proposal to Parliament to abolish gambling halls and electronic casinos, which is expected to pass today in a fast-track procedure.

The European Court of Human Rights has admonished Hungary and said a public servant was right who had been dismissed from her post in September, 2010 based on a law later annulled by the Constitutional Court. The Hungarian state was ordered to pay €6,000 in compensation and €3,000 in EU procedural costs.

The first finds from the Hungarian Conquest period of the 10th century at Nagykörű, a village on the right bank of the River Tisza, 25 kilometres northeast of the town of Szolnok, were excavated in 1891. In the autumn of 2010 the local authority at the village started building a new créche in the village centre and while digging the foundations more ancient Hungarian burials were found.

Hungarian national János Jurkovics has found the grave of his one-time POW grandfather namesake in Nizhny Tagil, Siberia, 67 years after the war. His grandfather was taken prisoner in Transcarpathia on November 20, 1944 and from there to prisoner of war camp no. 245 in Nizhny Tagil where he died on July 2, 1945.
