An appeals court on Wednesday handed a three-year prison sentence to a man for verbally and physically assaulting participants in the Budapest Pride march four years ago. Four other defendants were given suspended prison sentences in the binding ruling, gay rights group Háttér Társaság told MTI.

The majority of Europeans want more effective protections of the bloc’s external borders, according to a survey of citizens in 28 European Union member states by the Századvég Foundation. Fully 77% believed that the EU should be doing a better job of protecting the external border, Századvég said, adding that the same opinion was represented by 80-90% of centrists in Germany.
