Winter Light Exhibitions Brighten Five Hungarian Cities
Since opening in autumn, Decoled’s Story of Lights has been drawing steady crowds as Hungary’s largest winter light exhibition series. Each evening, landmark locations in Pécs, Gödöllő, Szolnok, Zalaegerszeg and Fertőd are illuminated with festive installations, turning familiar settings into atmospheric night-time walks.

Across the five cities, visitors can explore more than 400 light installations, hand-built illuminated sculptures, around 1.2 million bulbs and nearly 40 kilometres of light strings, all arranged into themed evening routes.

The Story of Lights exhibitions in Hungary are open until 1 February 2026, offering a distinctive, family-friendly programme throughout the winter months. Each location has its own narrative and mood. In Pécs, the Zsolnay Cultural Quarter becomes a fairytale-like light park.

In Gödöllő, the palace gardens bring to life the world of Queen Elisabeth (Sisi). In Szolnok, illuminated animal figures at the Bagolyvár Wildlife Park evoke the natural world. In Zalaegerszeg, the Göcseji Village Museum’s traditional houses and crafts take on a new character after dark. In Fertőd, the baroque setting of the Esterházy Palace recalls the refined elegance of the so-called “Hungarian Versailles”.

As winter attractions, these light parks are becoming an increasingly important draw for their regions. Designed to appeal to families as well as couples, the evening programmes attract both Hungarian and international visitors, helping to boost winter tourism. So far, the Hungarian Story of Lights series has welcomed more than 100,000 visitors.

Eva Poláčková, Managing Director of Decoled, explains: “Our exhibitions are an invitation to spend time together, to share moments with family or loved ones, and to rediscover a sense of wonder. We see light as a medium that connects people and evokes emotions that stay with them long after the visit.”

All five Story of Lights locations can be visited until 1 February 2026.
