Survey: Quarter Of Hungarians Poor Or At Risk Of Social Exclusion

In 2016, 2.46 million people in Hungary were either poor or at the risk of social exclusion, or 25.6 percent of the population, according to a Central Statistical Office (KSH) report. Data released on Friday shows that poverty and social exclusion eased by 0.7 percentage points compared with 2015.

The St Andrew's Ball is now an established Scottish entry into the year’s social calendar - thanks to lots of hard work by the St Andrew's Association team, it's becoming a well-oiled machine. Held at the Budapest Marriott Hotel last Saturday, in the main ballroom this year, it was a 'full house' expat community event.

Hungary’s education and health care would need a “significant” pay hike in the 2018-2022 period, government office chief János Lázár told an event organised by national employer federation MGYOSZ. Lázár said that unless salaries are raised, Hungary will be unable to close the gap with western Europe.
