By Treehugger Dan: I wish I could recommend some great pizza in Budapest, but I have yet to encounter one. Il Treno used to have a good garlicy sauce on theirs, as did Via Luna, but it has been many years since I have been to either of these restaurants. New York Pizza's pizza is also good (everything else on their menu I have tried is great, especially their lunch menu). Any suggestions?

The European Commission is urging Hungary to bring its national legislation on assessing the effects of projects on the environment in line with EU rules. On the recommendation of Environment Commissioner Janez Potočnik, the Commission is therefore sending a reasoned opinion. In the absence of a satisfactory response within two months, the Commission may refer the case to the EU Court of Justice.

The European Commission has not dissented in a notification procedure on Hungarian draft regulation for tobacco distribution, it was announced recently. Unless the government fails to adequately answer concerns raised by other member states, the draft regulation could be approved after August 17, wrote Nepszava.

The Second and Third District Court reprimanded lawyer Péter Dániel on Thursday and ordered him to pay Ft 407 in procedural costs for having poured ketchup on the Basic Law in the Second District mayoral office last year. The verdict can be appealled within eight days. Dániel admitted the act, but said it was not a misdemeanour but a way of expressing political opinion.
