I have the distinct feeling that something is afoot in Hungary, something the self-satisfied Orbán government is not prepared for. I see the beginnings of a movement that may well overcome the current apathy and resignation of Hungarian society and produce active resistance to the Orbán regime.

The government-supported vocational training scheme for ethnic Hungarians in neighbouring countries has proved successful this year, the state secretary for Hungarian communities beyond the borders said. The budget available for the programme this year was 500 million forints (EUR 1.7m), and increased significantly from last year, János Árpád Potápi told a conference.

The European Union’s mandatory migrant quota scheme would put an unacceptable burden on Hungary’s welfare, education and health-care systems, the human resources state secretary said. The migrant relocation scheme, if implemented, would be unlawful, dangerous and would go against Hungary’s interests, Bence Rétvári said.
