Vocational Training in Hungary 'Among Best in Europe, the World', Says Culture Minister
Hungarian vocational training "is one of the leading programmes in Europe and the world", Balazs Hanko, the culture and innovation minister, a press conference in Eger on Tuesday. "So choosing it is not a 'Plan B' but a true vocation and achievement," he said.

Vocational training will begin for 44,000 young people next week, Hanko said, adding that Hungarian training was considered "a silver medalist in Europe and a bronze medalist among OECD member states", and was ranked among the top ten in the world. All this was thanks to the renewal of Hungarian vocational training in recent years, he added.

Teachers' salaries in vocational training have increased 2.5 times since 2020, and 24,000 teachers can today expect gross earnings of at least 705,000 forints, while the majority earn between 900,000 and 1 million forints, he said.

Meanwhile, a scholarship system supports students, creating income and restoring a sense of pride in pursuing vocational work, the minister said. Scholarships range from a monthly 8,000 to 59,000 forints, while those in dual training can take home 168,000 forints, he noted.

Graduates are entitled to a start-up scholarship of 300,000 forints, he said, adding that the government has provided 9.5 billion forints to more than 30,000 students this summer.

Also, there is a loan scheme for vocational graduates, with 25,000 people having applied for this loan so far, he said.

Fully 100 billion forints worth of developments are currently under way at 34 vocational training sites. In the coming years, the government will allocate a similar amount to the renewal of training centers and vocational education hubs, he added.

Five industry knowledge centres are being built across the country in cooperation with universities and companies, Hanko further noted.
