Runners are going to gather at the Hungexpo premises to run a half marathon in the middle of winter. Race starts at 10am, while from 1:45pm participants can challenge themselves over a 10 km or a 5 km distance during the Running Festival, happening at the same place in the afternoon hours.

The opposition Socialist and LMP parties reiterated their position on Budapest’s bid to host the 2024 Olympics, saying that staging the Games was against the capital’s interest. Socialist Budapest deputy Csaba Horváth said that instead of supporting the Olympic bid, the Budapest Assembly should address the issue of the capital’s “broken-down hospitals and abandoned schools”.

The Liget project, a reconstruction of the City Park, will heed to protesters demands and leave all healthy trees in the park untouched, the technical director of project manager Városliget Zrt told free-distribution daily Lokál. The project affects about 150-200 trees out of altogether 7,000 found in the park, Attila Sághi said.

Dismantling of the former Hungexpo buildings in City Park began on Tuesday, as civilian activists who were resisting large-scale changes planned for the park were forcibly removed from the site with police assistance last week. They had been camping in the park for three months without a permit.

DK accuses the guards of “acting above the law”. Deputy party leader Ágnes Vadai said that in recent months, “groups of young skinheads” had appeared every time the interests of ruling Fidesz or the government had to be protected.
