The councillors voted with 28 in favour and two against, with only representatives of the opposition E-PM party opposing the motion.

Nobel laureate for literature Imre Kertész and inventor Ernő Rubik will be presented the Hungarian Order of Saint Stephen, the highest state award, this year, the prime minister’s press chief said on Monday. The award is given to personalities with undisputable international recognition, who have further improved Hungary’s reputation in the world, Bertalan Havasi said.

The radical nationalist Jobbik party on Monday called for isolating Hungary’s refugee camps and reception centres in order to reduce the threat of the Ebola epidemic and improve public safety. Jobbik MP Dániel Z Kárpát told a press conference that illegal refugees are approaching Hungary who originate from countries that are potentially affected by the epidemic.

Hungary’s public debt, calculated at nominal value, in line with Maastricht methodology, reached 25,432 billion forints (EUR 81.2bn), or 85.1% of GDP, at the end of June, preliminary data on financial accounts published by the National Bank of Hungary (NBH) on Monday show.
