Hungary’s economy is showing a number of promising signs, but investor confidence is still in need of improvement, the head of the Joint Venture Association said at a group function on Wednesday. Chris Mattheisen, who is also CEO of Magyar Telekom, said the unfavourable effects of Hungary’s external debt should be reduced in the interest of sustainable growth.

Magyar Telekom on Thursday said it planned to cut up to 1,700 jobs over the next year and a half, under an agreement reached with trade unions. About 40% of the redundancies are expected between October 1, 2014 and March 1, 2015, MTel said.

Financial services firm Provident has been voted the most appealing large company to work for, in a survey of 31,000 employees of 85 companies by consultant Aon Hewitt. It is followed by Magyar Telekom and Ericsson among companies with more than 1,000 personnel.
