EC Faults Hungary For Falling Behind On Recycling Targets

The European Commission said in a report this week that Hungary has missed its recycling targets “by a considerable margin” since 2012. Hungary was among 14 European Union member states the EC said are at risk of missing the target for recycling half of all waste by 2020, but the country was singled out, together with Malta, for the most sizeable shortfalls.

In 2017, the combined gross domestic product (GDP) of the European Union amounted to some EUR 15.3 trillion at current prices. Over half of this was generated by three Member States: Germany, the United Kingdom, and France. Hungary, meanwhile, contributed 0.8%, show data from Eurostat, the EUʼs statistics office.
