Taste Hungary’s Finest at Budapest's Special Wine Festival, 11 - 14 September
This annual wine celebration held in historic surroundings every September brings fine wine producers and enthusiasts together to sample the best examples from Hungary’s varied wine regions - and also from abroad, see guest countries below.

On from September 11 to 14 this year, one of Hungary’s most iconic events has proven to be a truly special celebration of wine culture, plus gastronomy, for over three decades.

Set within the historic walls of the Buda Castle, the festival offers a very special atmosphere, a powerful sense of community, and an unforgettable meeting of past and present.

Throughout the event, a varied musical programme will add to the vibrant atmosphere. This year, the Halászó Gyerekek Courtyard will also host live performances that bring an extra dimension to the festivities.

Sip & Savor Celebrated Wineries & Discover Upcoming Names

Wandering through the festival you’ll find standout names such as Fivérek Borbirtok from Szekszárd, a young winery founded in 2020 whose limited-production bottles - including their award-winning Cabernet Franc, Kadarka, and Merlot - have already earned gold medals in international competitions.

Also among the highlights are Royal Tokaji, celebrated for its Aszú 5-Puttonyos and Édes Szamorodni, both gold medal winners at the VinAgora competition. Babits Borászati Tokaj shows off its sparkling side with a Tokaji Furmint Brut Méthode Traditionnelle 2022, also a gold-rated wine festival favorite.

From the Somló region, Tornai Winery is on the list, as are Garamvári Vineyards by Lake Balaton, founded by Vencel Garamvári, known for pioneering sparkling wines made from Furmint (and other varieties) in the Balaton region.

Other top names to look out for include Bock Winery (Villány), Borbély Family Winery (Badacsony), Teleki (Villány), Fehérvári Wine Estate (Somló), and Sauska (both Tokaj & Villány), all of which bring top-quality reds, whites, and sweet wines to the mix.

Alongside Hungary’s finest wines, the international selection continues to grow. This year’s guests of honour - Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa - invite visitors on a special international wine trip.

So say farewell to summer in style with fine wines, breathtaking Danube sunsets, great company, and a rich blend of flavors.

Expect a diverse gastronomic selection to compliment the sophisticated wines from Hungary and beyond, at this must-attend event for every wine enthusiast here.

Take a Culinary Journey at the Gourmet Terrace

Three iconic restaurants await gastro-lovers on the Savoy Terrace: Byblos, evoking the vibrant flavors of the Middle East, Pomo d’Oro, the true essence of Italian cuisine, and YAMA, the Hungarian ambassador of modern Asia culinary art.

Fine dining bites paired with premium wines, innovative artisanal creations, regional specialties, and fusion cuisine come together in perfect harmony here, accompanied by countless glasses of wine, naturally.

Byblos – Mediterranean Fusion and Lebanese Tradition

For years, Byblos has been one of Budapest’s most exciting culinary crossroads for lovers of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern flavors. Executive Chefs Osama and Mohamad Kutaini promise dishes that blend the richness of spices, the freshness of seasonal ingredients, and the elegance of traditional Lebanese cuisine.

Pomo d’Oro – The Essence of Italian Living

The name Pomo d’Oro is synonymous with authentic Italian cuisine. On the Savoy Terrace, the restaurant brings the unmistakable Italian way of life, built around fresh pasta, carefully selected olive oils, and top-quality ingredients. For the festival, they present tasting bites that capture both the vibrant spirit of sun-soaked southern Italian markets and the sophistication of elegant trattorias.

YAMA – The Modern Asian Experience

This is one of Budapest’s leading representatives of contemporary Asian cuisine, always ready to surprise its guests. At the Wine Festival, they bring this same thrill: sushi variations, rolls spiced with exotic flavors, and irresistible textures crafted for gourmet festivalgoers. The YAMA selection pairs exceptionally well with mineral-driven white wines and sparkling wines, opening up a whole new dimension in wine tasting.

Charity Wine Auction: Empowering the Little Ones

For twenty-five years, the Hungarian Charity Service of the Order of Malta and the Budapest Wine Festival have been working together to support those in need. Bidders and generous donors alike can contribute by purchasing the exceptional wines offered at the event.

This year, proceeds from the anniversary Charity Wine Auction will benefit the hydrotherapy unit of a movement development center for infants and young children with special needs or physical disabilities.
