Last weekend the traditional end-of-winter carnival was held in southern Hungary. This annual festival in Mohács is a six-day event named after the busós, scary-looking costumed locals wearing wooden masks and woolly cloaks, as Euronews shows in this video.

The popular end-of-winter Buso festival, a registered UNESCO cultural heritage event, began in Mohács, in southern Hungary, featuring around 1,300 Buso people wearing traditional wooden masks and sheepskin costumes marching in the city over the next six days.

The carnival season lasts from Epiphany (6 January) until Ash Wednesday and is typified by masks and costumes, but also eating and drinking, dance and parties.
