The plenary session of parliament initiated by the opposition to debate the contested Liget project has been abandoned for lack of a quorum. Wednesday’s session was convened by the parliamentary speaker to debate the initiative of the co-leader of the Dialogue for Hungary party, Tímea Szabó, who wants the law that greenlighted the contested Liget project in City Park to be scrapped.

The National Bank of Hungary (NBH) is obliged to publish material concerning its property acquisitions under a binding court decision passed on Thursday, Socialist MP Sándor Burány told a press conference. Burány had sued the central bank to get access to reports made for its supervisory board concerning the purchases.

President János Áder has selected October 2 as the date for the referendum on the mandatory resettlement of non-Hungarian citizens in Hungary, it was announced yesterday. Prime Minister Viktor Orbán announced on February 24 that the cabinet would initiate a national referendum on the EU decision, made last October, to have all member states accept a number of refugees, based on their population.

The National Assembly of Hungary voted on Monday to allow authorities to block websites that offer unauthorized livery services, reports Hungarian news site 444.hu. The law, which is scheduled to come into effect over the next month, was approved by MPs with a 119-61 vote, and three abstentions. The bill had been submitted ny Minister of National Development Miklós Seszták.

Lawmakers approved amendments to the 2016 budget act raising both revenue and expenditures by 421.7 billion forints (EUR 1.4bn). The amendments were passed with 121 votes in favour and 63 against. The MPs raised the revenue target from 15,800.4 billion forints to 16,222.1 billion forints. They increased the expenditure target from 16,562.0 billion forints to 16,983.7 billion forints.
Govt Criticises, Socialists Support Teachers’ Demonstration

The state secretariat for education said most teachers believe in dialogue rather than demonstrations in the street and political agitation, commenting on the Tanítanék protest. Most teachers have already realised that certain anti-government forces just want to use them, the secretariat said.
