Womex In Budapest Attracts Record Number Of Applications

The World Music Expo (Womex) to be hosted by Budapest this autumn has attracted a record number of over 1,000 applications by the April 10 deadline, organiser and Womex jury member Balázs Weyer said. A total of 70 performers and bands will be selected for the event to be held in Budapest from October 21 to 25, Balazs Weyer of Hangveto (SoundSower) music distribution company said.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has raised its projection for economic growth in Hungary this year to 2.7% from 2.3% predicted last October. In its World Economic Outlook published Tuesday, the Fund said economic growth remained strong in Hungary but it is expected to decline this year on account of lower investment growth and less supportive fiscal conditions.
