Budapest mayor István Tarlós has announced plans to renovate the city’s iconic Chain Bridge and remodel Blaha Lujza Square in central Budapest. Speaking at an AmCham event, Tarlós said the Buda Castle tunnel was also a contender for renovation and plans are to revamp the Cog-Wheel railway, extending it to Széll Kálmán Square in one direction and all the way to Normafa Hill in the other.

The drivers blocked traffic in two lanes out of six on Elisabeth Bridge with a demand that Uber be banned and regulations enforced. According to the original plans, the constructions work should had finished as far back as February this year, however, it took a few months more than expected. Anyway, the square got ready by May and now it has a really modern and pretty face.

The cabinet submitted a bill to Parliament yesterday that in effect outlaws Uber and drivers who work for the company. The bill would make it possible to deprive drivers of their licence for six months if they are caught transporting passengers illegally for a second time and their vehicles could be withdrawn from traffic for up to three years.

Budapest city council on Wednesday supported a contract between public transport company BKV and the Development Ministry on upgrading the M3 metro line with 28 affirmative votes and one abstention. The overall cost of the project on the north-south Pest line is Ft 139.5 billion.

Hungary and South Korea have agreed to launch direct flights between their capital cities this summer. Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó told a press conference that over the first phase of cooperation, Asiana Airlines, South Korea’s second biggest carrier, will operate one flight a week between Budapest and Seoul from the beginning of July to the end of August.
