Banks and the MNB are carrying out test runs of intra-day settlements of electronic payment orders at high volume, before a new system enters into effect on July 1, the Banking Association announced yesterday. Electronic payment orders between banks will be executed within four hours, rather than the current two or three days, from Monday.

Hungarian households have amassed Ft 143 billion of debt to energy companies as of May 31, half of which is owed to gas companies, according to data from the Hungarian Energy Office, Development Minister Mrs. László Németh reported. Gas companies switched off gas at 102,000 households and 13,000 business, while electricity companies cut off service affecting 37,000 households and 3,000 companies.
