A total 8,162 people plunged into lake Balaton to swim 5,200 metres between Révfülöp and Balatonboglár. Organisers were happy to see some 1,000 participants more than last year, but noted that the event, organized for the 33rd time this year, had been attended by over 10,000 swimmers on several occasions.

The forint plunged against the Swiss franc on Thursday morning after the Swiss National Bank said it was discontinuing its minimum exchange rate of 1.20 francs to the euro. The forint traded at 310.34 to the Swiss franc around 11 in the morning from 265.51 about an hour earlier.

Hungary’s banking sector reported enormous losses totaling HUF 361 billion (USD 1.57 billion) in Q2 2014 according to data released by the Hungarian National Bank (MNB) on Friday. This was mainly due to massive provisions against losses to cover the costs of refunding clients for past charges resulting from the currency spread and higher interest rates approved without the client’s consent.
