The Magyar Kétfarkú Kutya Párt (MKKP) and Vastagbõr blog will post their billboard opposing the government’s anti-immigrant ad campaign from July 1, the satirical political party announced yesterday. Its president Gergõ Kovács told vs.hu website that the party will place its messages on 500 billboards across the country on July 1 and another 500 in the middle of the month.
Farm Ministry Calls For Investigation Into Illatos Road Pollution In Budapest

The farm ministry has called for a thorough investigation into the environmental pollution at a depot on Illatos Road in Budapest’s 9th district, to uncover the source of the contamination first reported in April this year. It said improper chemical use or fodder illegally obtained by the former state chemical works privatised in 1993 could be responsible for the pollution.

According to Political Capital director Péter Krekó, xenophobia has reached a record level in Hungary. He attributes this to fear of the unknown and political incitement as well. Fully 46% of respondents agreed with the statement that no asylum-seeker should be allowed to enter Hungary at all, the survey, taken since 1992, said.

The co-ruling Christian Democrats do not support the idea of restoring the death penalty in Hungary, Bence Rétvári, the party’s deputy leader, said. The Christian Democrats welcomed that the criminal code had been made stricter over the past five years, including the introduction of the “three strikes” law and would support further tightening, he said.
