The National Transport Authority on Friday withdrew from service with immediate effect six upgraded metro carriages after one broke down at Nyugati railway station. Its doors did not open and the passengers took great pains to free themselves while the metro driver said amid profuse apologies that the remote-control system did not work.

As a result of recent work progress, BKK Centre for Budapest Transport, being in charge of the introduction of the automated fare-collection (AFC) scheme, and German supplier Scheidt & Bachmann jointly approved the updated project schedule for system introduction which includes the testing of an access gate to be installed at one of the metro stations by 31 July 2017.

Two metro trains collided on Budapest’s M2 line early on Monday, injuring ten people, Máté Kisdi, a spokesman for Budapest’s disaster management authority said. The accident happened after one train travelling in the direction of Déli railway station caught up with and ran into the back of another. Both trains were carrying passengers.
