No longer is it necessary to live in Hungary, have a registered address or earn an income to qualify for citizenship - not even an exam in Hungarian is is needed!

Some 397 000 Hungarians spent more than 2.15 million guest nights in neighbouring Croatia in 2014, the highest numbers in eight years and an increase of 10% from 2013, the Budapest head of the Croatian Tourism Community, Marin Skenderovic, told the Hungarian news agency MTI.

The number of construction firms deleted from the company register went up 15% this year, according to company information service provider Opten. On average 500-550 construction companies went under each month, peaking at 650 in October and 656 in November.

Luxembourg-based RTL Group filed an official complaint with the European Commission on Thursday over Hungary’s new tax on the advertising revenues of media outlets. RTL argues that the tax is “confiscatory” in that it aims to collect 80% of the tax (HUF 4,5 billion or USD 18,7 million) from an independent media group possessing just 13.5% market share.
