Hungary Destroys 1,500 Hectare GMO Corn Crop

In June 1,500 hectares of GMO corn crop were destroyed by orders of authorities, Népszabadság has learnt. The Montoni type corn imported from Romania by German company Saaten Union was GMO infected. The Rural development Ministry informed all farmers concerned to destroy the crops within three days, by July 1.

Prices of goods and services in Hungary were 64% of the EU average in 2011, Eurostat found. Alcohol and tobacco were cheaper in Hungary than in any other EU country, at 63% of the average.
