The national flag was hoisted with full military honours at Kossuth Square in front of Hungary’s Parliament building in Budapest on Tuesday morning on the anniversary of the 1948-49 Revolution and War of Independence and the Memorial Day for the Martyrs of Arad. Hungary’s flag will remain at half-mast throughout the national day of mourning as a sign of respect.

Under the motion submitted by ruling Fidesz, statutory punishments with a sentence of more than five years for sexual crime committed against a person younger than 18 at the time of the crime will not lapse.

Speaking on the sidelines of a Higher Education Roundtable, Balog said that such crimes should be punishable by 2-8 years in prison rather than by 1-5 years in the basic case of assault.
