Protesters gathering in downtown Budapest on Tuesday evening demanded a change of regime and a “new Hungarian republic”. Speakers at the demonstration in József Nádor Square organised by civil organisations declared that the main goal of the protest was to bring together the various groups that had been taking action against the government’s policies in the recent past.

Corruption must be tackled by working together “in education, legal background work and also at an ethical level,” Pintér said, adding that this must happen within society and organisations such as police and prosecutors.
