Hungarian and international musicians will pay their respects to composer and pianist György Kurtág to celebrate his 90th birthday at a week-long festival starting on Sunday. The Kurtág 90 festival organised by the Budapest Music Center (BMC) will be held between February 14 and 21.

On Sunday 31 January, Müpa and the Budapest Festival Orchestra will be presenting their ninth music Marathon; the concerts start early and will fill Müpa’s concert halls non-stop into the evening. Following on from The Magic Flute and Orpheus and Eurydice, the Yvette Bozsik Company once again adapts a large-scale opera for the dance stage: on this occasion, it presents Carl Orff's 1949 musical setting of Sophocles' tragedy Antigone. In the drama that serves as the basis for the work, Antigone's brothers die by each other's hand.
