A realistic deadline for introducing a traffic congestion charge in Budapest is the end of next year, István Tarlós, the city’s mayor, told Népszabadság in an interview. Tarlós noted that his predecessor, Gábor Demszky, had undertaken to launch a congestion charge as a condition for EU financing for the construction of the city’s fourth metro line.

The left-wing parties were able to mayoralties in only a few places while Jobbik was second in almost every county. LMP candidates won a few seats on local councils.
