Successful drug prevention is more than just a police officer in front of a blackboard talking about the harms of the different drugs. Only long-term programs can be successful but they are expensive and the schools have no money. Civil organisations would do it for free but they hardly get any state support.

The new mobile radar units will may well scare speeders, as the related fines are not cheap (see table of fines below). The new generation of mobile radar units are far more efficient than their predecessors, and speeding is not the only thing they can detect. So the time has come for motorist to really concentrate on driving rather than chatting on their phones without hands-free car kits.

The Hungarian police have launched an investigation of brokerage Quaestor on suspicion of fraud, the National Police Headquarters said. Quaestor’s headquarters were raided as part of the investigation, the police said. Earlier in the day political parties clashed over the brokerage scandal.

Ferenc Gyurcsány, prime minister during anti-government riots in 2006, said in a court testimony that the officers accused in connection with the riots were not guilty of the offences they had been charged with. Gyurcsány said he had phoned deputy policy chief Árpád Szabadfi on the night of Sept. 18, 2006, when the attack on the TV headquarters in Budapest took place.
