Property firm AEG, owned by Russian investors, has purchased the five-star Lotus Therme Hotel & Spa in Hévíz, Zala county from CIB Bank, hotel CEO Erzsébet Pusztai confirmed. The price has not been disclosed. Accent Hotel will continue the management of the 232-room facility, where room occupancy was 61.1% last year.

Hungary’s spas drew more than 40 million visitors last year, state secretary Ádám Ruszinkó told a press conference, launching the open-air baths season. Fully 202 thermal baths operate in Hungary, which are a big draw for foreign tourists, Ruszinkó said.

A local referendum will be held in the 12th District on May 17 on a proposal to build tourist attractions in nature conservation areas in the hilly Normafa area. A forestry school, ski slopes, a ski lift, a playground, road renovations and public lighting are all included in the plan. According to the feasibility study, the project will cost Ft 6.9 billion.
