On Sunday 31 January, Müpa and the Budapest Festival Orchestra will be presenting their ninth music Marathon; the concerts start early and will fill Müpa’s concert halls non-stop into the evening. Éva Rónai is a defining figure of Hungarian textile art. She creates her works using the demanding French tapestry technique on an upright loom, which is very time-consuming and requires tremendous patience, energy, and physical fortitude. Despite her use of a traditional tapestry technique and her choice of biblical-mythical subject matter, her works are surprisingly realistic.

In Hungary, the Feast of the Holy Innocents falls on the same day with the traditional "birching", a fertility custom known almost everywhere in Europe. In Hungary, according to tradition on this day, girls were lightly whipped with a young tree shoot, to wish them good health and fertility in the new year.

In Hungary the Christmas tree is decorated on Christmas Eve, 24 December. In addition to the usual decorations, also chocolate pieces in bright wrappings are used. In the Hungarian tradition the Christmas present is brought by baby Jesus in the evening. Religious people follow the (Jesus kid) tradition and they go to the midnight mass, too.

According to legend, Doubtful Thomas was sent to India by the resurrected Christ to be a carpenter at the construction of the king’s palace. Thomas did obey Christ, and worked for and lived with the foreign ruler for many years. Thus, he is considered to be the Patron Saint of the Carpenters and also the patron of marriage.
