International Train Service Suspended From Budapest Keleti Railway Station

State railway company MÁV indefinitely cancelled all international train traffic after 8 a.m. Thursday, citing “safety reasons”. Passengers wishing to travel abroad will have to disembark within Hungary and transfer to trains run by foreign companies. MÁV officials told reporters that they could no longer guarantee the safety of Hungarian passengers.

As of today, no direct trains will depart from Budapest bound for Western Europe, Hungarian State Railways MÁV said in an announcement this morning, according to news agency MTI. Those leaving the country must transfer at a station near the border, and passport checks that can weed out refugees are expected at those border stations.
