Szijjarto noted that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and Donald Trump will hold their sixth official meeting on Friday and strengthening economic cooperation will be on the agenda.
The minister said economic cooperation has improved in the ten months since President Trump took office, and nine investment projects by American firms have been announced since then.
"Tomorrow we will finalise an agreement on boosting economic cooperation, under which we will be able to announce seven new American corporate investments this year," Szijjarto said.
"These will represent a total value of HUF 100bn and create many hundreds of new jobs in both Budapest and rural locations, in high-value-added industries such as IT, electronics or medical technology," he added.
Orban: 'We are travelling to Washington to open new chapter in Hungary-US ties'
"Today, we are travelling to Washington to open a new chapter in Hungarian-American relations with President Trump," Prime Minister Viktor Orban said on Facebook.
Orban said Donald Trump’s re-election had opened up new opportunities in Hungary-US ties. "The first ten months of this year marked the initial phase, during which we repaired the damage Hungary and Hungarian-American relations suffered under the Biden administration," the prime minister said on X in an English post identical to the Facebook entry.
"The politically motivated sanctions have disappeared, American funding for NGOs attacking Hungary has ended, and we can once again travel to the United States without a visa. With this, the first phase has come to an end."
"Our goal is to establish a strategic partnership that includes energy cooperation, investments, defence collaboration, and discussions on the post-war landscape following the Russia-Ukraine conflict. We are working on an agreement based on mutual benefits, one that serves the interests of every Hungarian citizen," Orban said.
"Heading to Washington! Let’s get to work!" the prime minister said.
