While in Paris with Lionel Hampton & His Orchestra, trumpeter Clifford Brown teamed up with altoist Gigi Gryce and a top-notch rhythm section (pianist Henri Renaud, guitarist Jimmy Gourley, bassist Pierre Michelot, and drummer Jean-Louis Viale) for two fine sessions on this enjoyable LP. Although Gryce was not a major soloist, he held his own with the trumpeter and was a talented composer.

The Paloznak Jazz Picnic festival to be held near Lake Balaton on Aug 20-22 will feature international stars such as Germany’s De Phazz and the Netherlands’ Candy Dulfer along with over 40 Hungarian performers, the festival’s director said.

The drummer Kendrick Scott was born in 1980, putting him squarely in the generation of jazz musicians who were formed by a wondrous combination of superb jazz education (Scott attended Houston's High School for the Performing and Visual Arts and then Berklee on scholarship), hip-hop, and exposure to every last classic jazz record in glorious reissue, across all styles.
