It resembled the kinds of visits newly installed prime ministers of member states make to introduce themselves to the dignitaries of the European Union. According to general practitioner Zoltán Komáromi, Hungary’s healthcare system is on the brink of disaster. Low salaries and poor working conditions are causing doctors to either go abroad or work at private hospitals. More and more patients are choosing private health care over public for procedures that are important revenue generators for the public health care system.

Citing several sources, left wing daily Népszava said on Tuesday that Vladimir Putin is planning to visit Budapest in March.

The number of people and days spent on sick leave both significantly dropped between 2005 and 2013 according to a report by the Central Statistical Office (KSH). The average number of paid time of f for an illness fell from 30 in 2005 to 24 in 2013, KSH said.

Nearly 70% of Hungary’s top diplomats have been replaced since Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó took office, the daily Magyar Nemzet reported. Fully 60 posts have already been reassigned with 14 more planned until next September.
