By Ferenc Kumin: Recalling Hungarian tourism back in 1989, the year of the opening of the iron curtain, it was quite a bit different from what we find today. Back then, Hungary, particularly Lake Balaton, was a popular summer destination for tourists from East Germany and other parts of the eastern bloc but a little off the beaten path for most others. How times have changed.

In addition to the Margaret Island Open-air Stage entrance to the end of summer every Friday, Saturday and Sunday open from 11 pm to 17 pm in the Nostalgia train horses. The Hungarian Railway History Park can be viewed during the initial seven-car train horses, but who wants to try a horse-drawn procession, the weekend visit established under the amphitheater entrance space.

By the 1890s many major European cities already had market halls, such as the famous Les Halles in Paris or Covent Garden in London, and others cities like Barcelona, Berlin, Florence and Lyons were to follow this trend. It was around this time that Budapest's councillors thought that the Hungarian capital should also have such a hall.

The first thing to say about the Hungaroring, is that it can be phenomenally dull; at least it could be up until last year. For most of its 25+ year history on the F1 calendar, the tight and twisting bowl-shaped track on the outskirts of Budapest came with the reputation of regularly hosting complete snoozefests. As for the circuit itself, it’s more like a go-kart track than anything else. ...

From the huge variety of Abaúj region in Northern Hungary apricots are probably the most famous. From all the varieties of apricot grown in the area is Gönci Barack Pálinka made – a spirit with a Protected Designation of Origin, which means that Gönci Barack Pálinka is not only made with local ingredients only, but distillation and bottling also take place in this beautiful area of Hungary.
