Ragnar Almqvist Irish Ambassador to Hungary

The son of a Swedish folklorist and Irish writer, Ragnar Almqvist was born and raised in Dublin. Educated through the Irish language, he took degrees in English literature, German and Economics, joining Ireland’s diplomatic service in 2008. He is joined in Budapest by his wife, Ailbhe Keating, and daughters, Freja and Sadhbh.

David Kostelancik, a career member of the Senior Foreign Service of the United States, rank of Minister Counselor, began his posting as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy Budapest, Hungary in August, 2016. Since January 20, 2017 he has been the Charge d’affaires.

Frederick Sweet was born in New York City of Hungarian parents (both from Budapest) who had immigrated to the United States before World War II. Since Hungarian was spoken at home, Sweet acquired it as a second language.
