21-year-old Hungarian musician Éva Muck has been voted the world’s best female bass guitarist at a competition held in the United States. The “Queens of Strings” event, which took place for the first tame between 22 January and 1 April, began with contestants submitting a video of them playing the bass guitar, together with a brief CV and a recent picture showing the instrument they play on.
The rapid rise in the influx of illegal migrants will put an extra burden of more than 15 billion forints (EUR 47.8m) on Hungary, according to fresh estimates, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said. These estimates were made based on a daily 1,200 new entrants, but by now their numbers have risen to 1,800, he told journalists.

This year’s Bridging Europe Festival in Budapest will put the culture and especially the music of Austria in the centre of attention. The festival, which is organized by the Palace of Arts (Müpa) and the Budapest Festival Orchestra (BFZ), will take place between September 11 and 16. Highlights of the festival will include three concerts, with BFZ and German baritone Roman Trekel performing Mahler’s Symphony No. 7 (in E minor) in Müpa on September 11, 12 and 13.
