Imre Eck choreographed the musical work of Sándor Szokolay for the first official premiere of the Ballet Pécs company on 3 January 1961 at the National Theatre of Pécs.
The Ballad of Loathing is an iconic performance of the ensemble’s history, and its original choreography, with its original costumes, has been restored on every jubilee.
On the 60th anniversary of founding the Ballet Pécs, we are staging our iconic piece The Ballad of Loathing with a completely new concept, in the language of contemporary dance.
With the dance language and the characters of the current company we want to show the tension of human relationships, the lack of understanding each other, the possibilities of power and the victory that can be achieved as a result of paying attention to each other and the possibility of a world free from fears.
The choreography is made by dancer and choreographer Lóránd Zachár, his colleague is Balázs Vincze, the founding director and artistic manager of the independent Ballet Pécs.
In the spirit of openness and innovative approach, which has always characterised the Ballet Pécs, we asked Viktor Kozarics, a creator in Pécs, to design the costumes, and this is his first dance theatre work with a professional ballet ensemble.
Vincze's exciting theatrical approach and special stage visions, Zachár's special worldview as well as dynamic and progressive dance language, Kozarics’s unique costumes and the outstandingly talented dancers of the Ballet Pécs together create the 21st century version of The Ballad of Loathing.
