Gábor Szenteleki Exhibition At Ari Kupsus Gallery
- 25 Oct 2010 1:00 AM
From cloud-spotted scenes to crisp portraits, this artist’s oeuvre requires close examination and reflection. Szenteleki has exhibited his work extensively in solo and group exhibitions across Hungary and abroad and has a degree from the Hungarian Academy of Fine Arts.
“I have been painting figurative works for 10 years, consciously taking on a traditional painterly attitude. I create my ironic, sometimes even grotesque, themes in this archaic language, which establish a powerful tension of imagery and content in this combination,” Szenteleki describes. “The main motif of my works recently has been people and objects growing mushrooms on themselves.
The resulting paradoxical relations create strongly associative situations, through which I can present a complex but strong opinion about our world. In this present exhibition, in addition to paintings, I have continued to search the possibilities inherent in this concept through C-prints.”
The formal opening for Gábor Szenteleki show begins at 6 p.m. on November 3, 2010.
In December, the Ari Kupsus Gallery will feature two new exhibits, starting with a joint show of two Finnish artists, sculptor Yrjö Liipola and painter Johanna Oras, from December 1 to December 15. This exhibition is part of Finnish Independence Day (6th of December) celebrations in Hungary and is sponsored by the Embassy of Finland, Budapest and by the Finnish Ambassador, His Excellency, Mr Jari Vilén. On loan from the Yrjö Liipola Art Museum, a collection of 13 sculptures will be on display, demonstrating Liipola’ s rounded graceful style used to capture outdoor laborers and sinuous nudes. Complementing the sculptures will be Oras’ romantic realist paintings that feature variegated still lifes with a touch of feminine mysticism.
Later in the month, the gallery will host an exhibition on the history of classical music, showcasing commercial works, books, sheet music, manuscripts, photographs, posters and more from the 19th and 20th century. The exhibition will open on December 17 and run until January 15.
About the gallery:
The gallery hosting the exhibition bears the name of its owner, Mr Ari Kupsus, a Finnish entrepreneur living in Hungary for 11 years, whose activities in Budapest include the running of various charity programs supporting young talent both in the world of music and the fine arts. His gallery shows contemporary art in an interior comprised of early 19th-century antiques, achieving a distinct totality of ambiance.
