Gun Laws Tighten In Hungary
The Government, a decree tightened regulations concerning the possession of firearms in Hungary. The move comes as a reaction to a deadly school-shooting last November, and the arrest of a university student planning a murder spree with a legally-owned handgun. Now would-be firearm owners will be compelled to undergo extensive psychological testing and spend at least three years in a ‘sport shooting club’, before gaining a permit.

The new regulation is likely to be applied to firearms kept for purposes other than sport shooting. According to the Non-lethal Weapons Rights Group (NEHA), the amendment could even apply to gas and signal guns kept for self-defense, of which there are an estimated 50,000 owned by Hungarians.

NEHA has protested against applying the new regulation for such weapons.
