Most Hungarians Would Favour IMF Deal
Most Hungarians would welcome a loan agreement between Hungary and the IMF, according to a poll conducted by the Szazadveg Foundation in the second half of July. Such a pact had the support of 58% of respondents, while 22% rejected the idea and 20% could not or would not express a view. Opposition to a deal is highest among Jobbik voters, at 50%, although even 35% of the far-right party’s supporters would approve of an agreement.

A majority of respondents find it acceptable that terms set by the IMF include further cuts in the state debt (68%), strict adherence to budget targets (64%) and amending the law on the central bank (42%).

However 63% would be against a property tax, 51% oppose a wealth tax and 45% are against the abolition of the bank tax.
