Introducing Festetics Palace, Keszthely, Hungary
The Helikon Palace Museum in Keszthely is a museum complex consisting of four buildings housing five permanent and several temporary exhibitions. The palace that belonged to the Festetics Family for 200 years has been built and extended continuously since the middle of the18th century and is now one of the most significant monuments of Hungary. The building is surrounded by a nature reserve park. Its furnished rooms show the aristocratic lifestyle of the 18th and 19th centuries.

The most valuable part of the palace is Hungary’s sole intact aristocratic private library with its more than 85,000 books mostly from the 18th and 19th centuries and its neoclassicist furniture. In the Northern wing of the palace there is a conference centre.

The building of the Coach Museum was built between 1883 and 1887. The carriages and coaches that were necessary to the lifestyle at that time were kept in the coach house. The exhibition consists of more than 50 coaches, carriages and sleighs from the 18th and 19th centuries.

In the new museum building there are two exhibitions. The hunting exhibition presents trophies of 220 game species from five continents. Most of the animals can be seen in their natural habitat. On the second floor one of Europe’s largest model railway exhibitions can be seen on a surface of 500 m².

The Palm House is situated in the park surrounding the palace. It was built in 1880. In its present form, it evokes the tradition of orangeries and tropical plant houses typical of the royal and aristocratic lifestyle. It presents the most beautiful exotic plants from Tahiti to Florida.
